Lucilla You Min, née Bi Yuyi, was the eldest daughter of eminent Cantonese opera artist Pak Yuk Tong. As a child, she learned the art from her father and performed alongside him. In 1952, she joined Shaw & Sons and appeared in Anything Can Happen (1952), Beyond the Grave (1954) and Tragedy of Vendetta (1955) among other films. In 1958, You signed a deal with MP & GI; her subsequent roles in Her Tender Heart (1959) and All in the Family (1959) landed her the Best Actress award twice in a row at the Asian Film Festival. In 1961, she became the first ever Best Actress at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards for her part in Sun, Moon and Star, Parts One and Two (1961). Song without Words (1961) and Father Takes a Bride (1963) are some of her other works. When MP & GI teamed up with Japan’s Toho Company, You became the leading lady in the love trilogy A Night in Hong Kong (1961), Star of Hong Kong (1963) and Honolulu, Tokyo, Hong Kong (1963). The diva of exceptional charm and beauty became hugely popular in Japan. In 1964, You got married and retired from showbusiness after completing Romance of the Forbidden City (1964).
